A bit problem with boolean operation n layout

hi. recently using lightwave 2 model company logo. start with curve imported from adobe illustrator esp. the curve in 2 part, one circle n a character p inside.

ok, when i perform boolean substraction 2 create a p inside the circle (which i extruded), i was able 2 create the shape i want. but i notice some polygon are missing, so i use "make pol" 2 create polygon. surprisingly 2 find the polygon look dim in color in shade mode and when u click on the polygon the normal indicator doesn't show up!

when i press i ( information ) 2 see polygon info, i find the polygon actually consisted of 8 vertices !!

so i weld the vertices 2 make it 4 vertices per polygon.

ok, my question is how 2 avoid this problem when doing boolean operation in lightwave. thanks.

**another question ( not related 2 above ): how to align objects in lightwave layout? thanks

Do you not need to flip the polys?

Could you post a picture of the problem area?

As an addition to this, when you're cutting out your original boolean operation, is the object you're cutting into completely closed i.e. it has no open areas where there would normally be polygons?

Here's an easier way to get your shape: Import into LW as you would normally do. DO NOT EXTRUDE YET. Take your P and make a polygon out of it (if the import doesn't do that for you automatically). Once your P is ready and your circle has been made into a poly, instead of using Boolean, use Drill instead, use either Tunnel (to cut a hole straight through), or Stencil (to change the surface of the new polygon that'll be created internally). If you use Tunnel and it cuts your P out successfully, use Extrude to get your 3D depth.

By the way, if it appears that your polygon looks odd or seems to cover areas it shouldn't, but you can find no problem with it (ie your points all match up, there are no doubled up points, and it's not non-planar etc), then the only explanation is it's an OpenGL rendering error. Not to worry, this won't show up in the final render you make.

Hope this helps.
