save preferences?

Hi, I've been working with maya for about a year...

I want to save my preferences, such as grid color, customized tab, marking menus and hot keys.. so I can open my workspace in another computer.

I've tried: Edit -> Save preferences | but where does it go? and I'm not sure if that this is doing what I want... i guess this command just save your preferences for your computer to remember...

So, anybody knows how to bring the customized workspace to another PC?

thanks for everyone reading.

Hi!

I don't know is it useful for you, but why don't you copy all MAYA preference files to whatever you need?
In Windows OS you can use this path:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Your username>\My Documents\maya\2008
and in the prefs dir you can find all files that make your preferences.

In my case it's MAYA 2008. If you use older version it may call 7.0, 7.5, 8.5, ect.

Let me know if you need something more.

Cheers!

Thanks man, but i am working with a mac now... I tried to find the preferences dir as you said, but it just seems do be no where!
Yes, i am using the 2008 version, all the applications are in the 'Applications' folder, to insltall plugins in maya in a mac you need to right click in the maya.app icon (it would be the .exe on pc) and choose show package contents... inside there you can install the plugins and stuff, but the prefs dir arent there =/
wow, just got it...
when saving preferences in maya i opened the script editor and it showed me!

// Saving preferences to : /Users/Pedro/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2008/prefs/userPrefs.mel
// Saving window positions to : /Users/Pedro/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2008/prefs/windowPrefs.mel
// Saving runtime commands to : /Users/Pedro/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2008/prefs/userRunTimeCommands.mel
// Saving hotkeys to : /Users/Pedro/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2008/prefs/userHotkeys.mel
// Saving named commands to : /Users/Pedro/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2008/prefs/userNamedCommands.mel
// Saving plug-in preferences to: /Users/Pedro/Library/Preferences/Autodesk/maya/2008/prefs/pluginPrefs.mel
// Preferences saved. See Script Editor for detail

maaan, im so glad, thank you for helping!

Glad you're ok now! :)
Want to tell you about SCRIPT EDITOR and ECHO ALL command, but you do it by yourself!
So, good luck in your future projects!

Cheers!
