Reference Pictures

I am new to Maya, so this may be much easier than I think, but im having trouble figuring out how to add reference images in Maya. Ive downloaded a video tutorial that shows how, but i don't have the codec to view it, and it wont download the codec, so all i can do is hear it, and its a bit hard to follow. Also, ive read over the first part of the car modeling tutorial on the tutorials page here on the website, but like i said, im new to Maya, so it was pretty hard for me to follow. I already have the reference pictures, i just need to find out how to get them in Maya... can anybody help? Thx.
