i dont understand your question, are you trying to reduce the divisions on the sphere? if you are on the left where is says polysphere click on it and you will see subdivision axis and subdivision(dont remember) you can reduce both

I don't know much but guessing from what you have said, select your sphere then on your right hand side of maya is information about its position, scale etc. Follow that down until you come to the Inputs section, under that you have polySphere1, click on that. Informtion will pop up and all you have to do is change the numbers in the sections and span boxs.

my question was how do i reduce the lines on the sphere because i am following a tut and in the tut the line in the sphere are less than the ones on the top image
top image is my maya
and bottom is the tuts maya

and when i reduce the subdivision and the other thing it is not a sphere it changes to a sphere with coners

It looks like you use a Polysphere, but the tut is using a nurbsphere.

i dont know maya but if you look at the picture you can see it on the right of the picture...Nurbsphere(tut) Polusphere (you).

i got it to work i went to
Create->NURBS Primitives->Sphere
in the Help-Find Menu
