Question Which is better : Maya 8 or 3ds Max 9

I have both Maya and 3ds Max.I wonder which of those two is better to make nice images, cause I'm not interested in animations, at least not yet...I'd like to focus on only one program.
What do you think, should it be Maya or 3ds Max ?!

Hi e-m-i :D ,

It is hard to say one is better than other because both softwares has its own advandages. I'm not an expert to advice you.

But in my opinion you can focus on Maya

Because Maya is hard to learn than 3dsMax(and you already know Maya)

And 3dsMax seems to be a subset of Maya

Maya has various tools like Fur,Paint Effects, etc... that make creation much easier than 3dsMax

So i think you better focus on Maya.

:)

I think 3ds max is better, it's more simple than maya and there's also Vray for 3ds max

I heard that Maya is for fur and texture, and 3ds Max for animation. Is that true or it's the other way around?

U can do these things(modeling, fur, texture, animation....) with either software.
The only difference is the modeling. People often use maya to model with Nurbs and use 3ds max to model with poly.

either

I started with Max 3.1 then switched to Maya and now I'm starting to lean back to max a little. I prefer Max for polygon modeling. It seems to have some nice features that Maya only has if you script or download plug-ins. If you plan to animate a character (or anything for that matter) I prefer Maya. It seems to be easier to create smooth, believable, life-like motion.

max is much better thats in my opinion, becoz its firstly very analytical and u get a clean and systematicaly arranged interface to work with.
Also both in the modelling and animation part i think max is better than maya, and finaly its the amount and output that "u r going to give",and not the "max or maya".
Both are meant to do the same job and one shud stick to the one thats more intelligent and easy to use.
Well thats just my opinion u should download and try the trial version of the both giants to see for urself what suits u right, and u can also look for tutorials for both of them and the method that are applied to model, animate or else in the both two keeping into account the overall time involved to do the thing.
Hope this helped
Sorry for my bad english,
Best of luck!
