2 or 4 cores ?

I'm getting a new computer the day after tomorrow and considering that I will use it mainly for watching movies, playing games and 3D I decided to ask you guys.
I don't wanna upgrade my computer for another 3,4 years. Also, I'd like to have the best possible option considering rendering and 3D generally.
So, processor with 2 or 4 cores ?!

Remember : I wanna be able to play the newest game at the highest option and make 3D...
Oh yeah, I use Maya. But I might transfer to Max, so please:
HELP !!!

i would go with 4 cores. idk if thats better but it seems like the more you have the better. idk dont take my word for it though i would just research the pros and cons of each.

3D uses alot of processor power, so i would pick as much power i can gett, in this case a 4 core.

always go for more cores, if possible go for intel-extreme processors & for advance users go for DP-boards like IntelŽ 5400 chipset, or multi system in network.

also look for NVIDIAŽ QuadroŽ graphics solutions for rendering

rendering in max really uses all cores, so if you have 4, max uses 4 cores at maximum! really decreases rendertimes

I would always say the more the better. Although while working in Maya I did find that all processors were peaking out during rendering but while during batch rendering they did not peak as much or at all. Soooo not too sure about that?

Dont know how it works in maya, but when i made the step from a core2duo @ 2,5ghz to core2quad @ 2,5ghz my rendertimes dropped to almost half the time! :D
