err... i think u got it wrong there bro
the early stages are spline cage modeling.I draw the lines which defines the shape of the car...its like drawing wireframes on the car but just a few important lines.then I convert it to editable poly and add the details.thats the fastest way to get supersmooth curvatures and clean wireframes. I never use auto smooth or turbosmooth or any other smoothing modifiers ;)
