REalistism without HDRI

I see that HDRI can make almost any object look photoreal but what if I have a scene that is completely CG made can I expect the same kind of quality? IF so can anyone share a tip or two?

I can see in my images for example this one, the HDRI version looks more "real" than the cg one.... cause I work with Cg scenes all the time, I want to know how can I make cg-made scenes more "real", cause I only rely on HDRI for outdoor lighting than interior lighting.
