Yeah, its a shame though it can only be one Wave sound.

I use Audicity, a free audio editing package:

http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

I time it all, make the main wave sound (Speech for example), and then using the audio program, you can layer sounds ontop of each other to create the final mix, and then import this into max witihn the graph editor.
