BLACK POLYGONS? ZBRUSH to MAYA

Hi.

Where did these black polygons come from and how can I get rid of them?

I built the mesh in Maya and sculpt on it in ZBrush. The last time I moved it from ZBrush into Maya these black polygons appeared in random, bilaterally symmetrical locations throughout the mesh. If I go into the Attribute Editor and attempt to change color, all the polygons in the mesh change color except the black ones, which stay black. If I go into Faces mode and select a black polygon and delete it, then use Fill Hole to replace it, it is still black. If I delete a black polygon and use Append to Polygon ... it works. So, I have this labor intensive solution to converting the black polygons back into normal polygons but I sure would like a global solution and I sure would like to know what caused it in the first place.

Thanks!
