You can animate models from ZBrush on any 3d app.

ZBrush can handle models with several millions of polygons, but that is just for sculpting within ZBrush, you can animate a lower poly cout version of the same model in max, or any other 3D app and use the displacement maps generated on ZBrush, the result is almost the same as in ZBrush. :D
